Wedding at The Green Building

 

Thanks to Allison and Steve for inviting me along on their wedding planning journey. It was quite the ride! I am so grateful they trusted me to help them plan and coordinate their day. I'm thrilled they enlisted the expertise of a few of my favorite wedding professionals and loved the new ones they introduced me to, also. Hello Ample Hill! The slate table numbers were designed by Allison's creative mom. And one of the best decisions they made, was renting an Air B&B kitty corner from The Green Building. Having the wedding head quarters, where the bride, her bridal party and family had hair, make-up and got dressed literally steps from the ceremony and reception was this wedding planner's dream.

Lobsters and Lighthouses

Sunday was a big day- I introduced the expansion of my business.  New England is a market that has grown near and dear to me, so I thought it was time to make if official.  I am so excited to show off my new logo and brand designed by the very fabulous and talented Katie Fischer Design.

Wedding Crashers is an event that is close to my heart and The Green Building is a venue where I really feel at home, so there was no better time or place to share my exciting news.

Thanks to Gabrielle of G! Designs for the beautiful flowers and help laying out my Lobsters & Lighthouses inspiration board. Thanks to Ruth of Papertopias for her darling illustrations and beautiful handwriting. It was a successful, fun and delicious event. Martha's Vineyard

Martha's Vineyard lived up to it's reputation. This laid back, sophisticated and diverse destination, a short ferry ride away from the mainland, makes it easy to enjoy the journey and is a place I hope to return to often if not annually. I wanted some place special and new (to me) to celebrate my milestone birthday and was not disappointed. There was adventure, good food and an abundance of beauty.

Erik-- our innkeeper, was instrumental to the success of our vacation. His invites and information made all the difference. Grateful to Kimberly for recommending Oak Bluffs Inn and thanks to Carissa for sharing her knowledge and enthusiasm for MV. Proof positive of the power of a word of mouth referral. If you're hungry for seafood, apple fritters, have a hankering for the ocean or if you're looking for an amazing backdrop for a destination or New England wedding consider Martha's Vineyard.

Destination Weddings In Ireland

I toured a small bit of Ireland last year and while it was vacation, I couldn't help myself from checking out a few wedding venues. I thought this would be the appropriate week to share some of my favorite snapshots as everyone is a little bit Irish heading into this weekend.

Ireland is rich in character, culture and history and offers an abundance of all the necessary ingredients needed to host a destination wedding. Couples can marry and celebrate at a Catholic church, in a garden, at a luxurious hotel or inside an old castle.







Your guests can enjoy the breathtaking scenery, hiking up waterfalls, walks along the countryside, seeing animals, taking in the culture, sampling traditional Irish fare, antique shopping and of course downing pints of Guinness while listening to Celtic music into the week hours of the morning.





Having lived in Scotland after college, I have a special fondness of the United Kingdom and traveling with someone with a keen sense of the land, really allowed me to see the country from an unique and authentic perspective.

It wouldn't be me if I didn't talk about the food. Ireland gets a bad wrap for their cuisine. And while sometimes the food was true to it's reputation....



other times I enjoyed delicious food that was well prepared with local ingredients and presented in a very inviting way.

Wedding Crashers 2012 Recap

Wedding Crashers is wedding planning at it's coolest, and this year was no exception, in fact I was a blown away by the quality of this years event and the vendors who participated.

Sam Zuniss and I represented Brooklyn Betrothed yesterday. It was wonderful to talk to so many people who read our informational wedding blog and enlighten those who had yet to discovered our collective.

More good news, there are still countless ways to personalize your wedding and make it unique. Want to provide your guests with an experience they've never had before, no problem, read on...

It should come as no surprise that some of my favorite finds are food related. My day started with "breakfast" from The Food Freak's food truck. I sampled their grilled cheese and tomato soup, chili, Brussel sprouts and a caramelized bacon truffle.

Later in the day, when the line was finally down, I enjoyed a mini lobster roll (the hot one with butter vs. a traditional with mayo) from The Red Hook Lobster Pound Truck. It was delicious and one of the most talked about food trucks all afternoon.

The Meat Hook had some seriously good mac & cheese and the coolest thing I ate yesterday was the Coolhaus ice cream sandwich. They were making them to order and the varieties of cookies and ice creams were amazing. My sandwich was made of red velvet cookies and brown butter bacon-- are you seeing a trend?



The Green Building was the perfect location to host Wedding Crashers. It's open, airy and oozing with natural light. Thanks to Brooke, Quin and all for making us feel right at home. We also really appreciate Nicole from Brooklyn Based who was able to honor our request of keeping the Brooklyn Betrothed ladies in close proximity.

After the event, Kristina Hill and I headed to The Bell House to check out the band showcase, I know she snapped a few photos, it was fun and I rounded out my day of sweet bacon treats with a chocolate truffle covered in bacon bits, courtesy of Radish!

Katie Fischer Design's The Story of Us...

...is one of those ideas that is so good, I almost want to save it for myself but I was raised to always share, alas I must let you all in on this genius idea. I've been singing Katie's praises since I first saw her work in person, and am happy that her kindness and warmth mirror her creativity and talent. Her illustrations were featured at the Wedding Crashers after party at The Green Building and The Story Of Us might be my very favorite personalized and creative wedding element, ever.

What is The Story of Us? It's an opportunity to share your love story through personalized, handmade, creative drawings. This is a tasteful and artistic way to showcase the funny, the fumbles and the interesting things that have taken place in your relationship from first meeting to happily ever after. The illustrations can be used in details throughout your ceremony and reception, they can mark tables, adorn menus, jazz up programs and personalize other paper elements. Katie can do it all.



I helped Katie design her table at New York Magazine Wedding Show in April and I look forward to seeing Katie again tomorrow at The New York City Gay Wedding Expo at the fabulous Gotham Hall. If you're in the neighborhood tomorrow, stop by to say hello and see her beautiful work in person.

Same Sex Wedding Vendors

The idea of same sex wedding vendors seems a little silly in the city of New York, where truly anything goes. While it hasn't been legal until now, many of us wedding professionals have been supporting same sex couples who have celebrated their relationships for a long time. I've known several couples who have gone to states where it was legal to wed and then return to New York for the celebration with their friends and family.
