Rain on Your Wedding Day
"Without rain there are no rainbows", the father of the bride poetically said the eve of Jason and Molly's big Bachelor Wedding last week on ABC. While they certainly had rain, they also got their rainbow, which was quite appropriate as the bride walked down the aisle to Jason Castro's version of Over the Rainbow.
When I heard Colin Cowie speak last month he addressed the issue of rain. He advised the room of brides to prepare for rain, have a plan and be ready to put it into play, if necessary and often you'll be rewarded with great weather.
While we've been all sunshine and 60's this week in New York, I know how romantic the idea of an outdoor wedding can be, but you must keep the comfort of your guests in mind.
This past weekend I helped another planner with a beautiful and elegant black tie wedding. It was a monsoon in Manhattan, we were so fortunate the ceremony and reception were in one location. Still, I must offer kudos to the team at Cipriani's. They managed the coat check process seamlessly. They had staff waiting at the curb with over sized umbrellas prepared to escort each guest from their vehicle to the front door. At the entrance, a row of servers were lined up waiting to greet each guest and check their coat and umbrella. It was wonderfully synchronized. 264 guests were dry and happy as they found their escort cards and seats for the ceremony.
How does your wedding venue handle inclement weather and what is the coat check situation? It doesn't have to be as elaborate as Cipriani's, but it is a question that should be asked.
Of course rain is good luck on a wedding day, it's said, "a wet knot is more difficult to untie." Cheers to wet knots and long happy marriages!
