How to revive dead lilacs?

My trip to the flower market on Friday was followed by a fabulous photo shoot, stay tuned for the amazing pictures by Jen Huang. Then I enjoyed getting acquainted with the lovely Missy Murphy over a long lunch sitting in the sun at Tartine in the West Village. Meanwhile the flowers I purchased at 9am, had not seen water yet. I dragged my poor lilacs home and I am sure passengers on the train were quietly questioned my flower neglect. I needed the flowers for an event the next day and was thrilled I could use them for the photo shoot as well. Thought I may need to replace them, but after consulting with Gabrielle, my resident flower expert, she advised me to add 1/4 cup of vinegar and a tablespoon of sugar to the water. Presto, within an hour the flowers had returned to life and the next morning they were good as new.

Lilac and cherry blossom season is so very short, if you haven't indulged yet, hurry!
