Have you enjoyed the wedding videos I've shared this week? Wedding videos have come so far and are truly artistic and beautiful yet there are different styles that appeal to a variety of audiences. Do you prefer documentary style or Super 8? Not sure-- no worries, I have another I'll post next week.

We've been busy at Brooklyn Betrothed. We had a great meeting this week, lots of new content on the blog and really interesting topics on the calender. Please check out my post on planning a destination wedding that was inspired by my trips to Jamaica and The Berkshires. My review of the Lovesick Wedding Expo is also there.

It's been an interesting start to the year, I've enjoyed meeting with many newly engaged couples and catching up with some of my favorite vendors. I've also made subtle tweaks to my blog based on feedback I've received, so please as always feel free to let me know what you like, and what you'd like to see more of. And I suppose if there is something you don't like, that's only fair.

Next week, I'll share Michelle and Patrick's wedding video, a beautiful Jamaica Wedding and more.

The Truth Behind Wedding Videos

As I get back into blogging after a busy year and a very happy holiday season, I am going to start slow yet strong by sharing a few wedding videos that demonstrate the documentation of the film professionals I have had the pleasure of working with, while showcasing some of my finest weddings from 2011.

I am often asked by couples planning a wedding, if they should hire a professional videographer. Video is not always budgeted for in the beginning and is sometimes a decision that is left to late in the planning process, but personally I always recommend it. So much time, money and effort is invested into looking good, delivering speeches, practicing dances and making sure guests have fun, couples can't be everywhere and will evidently miss something and may not remember specifics once the day has passed. Even if the video is watched infrequently, it's one of the few opportunities you'll have to capture aging relatives, growing families and those you are closest to all at once, especially while everyone is looking their best.

Today I will start with Avivit and Jon's wedding, which was documented by: Cinevent Productions. I am going to let the videos this week stand on their own, I will be crediting the wedding professionals and sharing more of each wedding as I post the still images in the weeks to come, so please check back often.

Surprise Wedding at Bow Bridge in Central Park

This bitter cold day in December was easily one of my I love my job days. My relationship with Get Married in New York couples is admittedly brief, yet very unique, albeit significant. When the bride and groom choose to exchange vows privately, I am often the one the bride hands her bouquet to, the person handing the rings to the officiant, a witness signing the marriage license and the first to congratulate the newlyweds. It's awesome, but especially wonderful when the couple and their story is as amazing as this one.

Big thanks to Sofia Negron who was filling in for Christopher Duggan. She captured this wedding and the couple wonderfully-- we had so much fun!

The Story:

After a four year courtship, Sarah and Anthony planned her first trip to New York City. Knowing Serendipity was her favorite movie, the film inspired the groom to propose to his long time sweetheart at Wollman Rink in Central Park. The on ice marriage proposal was followed by "that's not the best part-- we are getting married tomorrow!" A thrilled bride-to-be was guided through the busy streets of Manhattan to retrieve a marriage license, pick out her wedding bands and get her wedding gown (that was ordered by the groom from England--the bride got record fast, same day alterations!) This thoughtful chap planned for his fiance to have her hair and makeup done by professionals, too. Thanks to Get Married in New York, the Englishman was able to outsource the enlistment of an officiant, photographer, florist, their wedding day transportation and the over all coordination.

Their wedding:

The couple encountered this pedicab gentleman twice the day before the wedding. It was a happy coincidence that he was on duty and positioned at the entrance to the park most convenient to Bow Bridge and that he was available to transport the couple. I love examples of how our grand city can exude the charms of a small town.

An intimate ceremony at Bow Bridge was personalized by the words of wedding officiant Reverend Annie Lawrence.

Even on the coldest of winter days, Central Park can provide the most picturesque backdrop for couples who can weather the elements. Obviously an excellent photographer is to credit as well.

The couple stands proudly at the entrance of The Plaza.

They were such a fun duo with an amazing spirit, fantastic sense of humor and a genuine camaraderie. Sincere congratulations to Sarah and Anthony on their marriage and a special kudos to the groom for a job extremely well done! It was truly my pleasure to be a small part of your very special surprise wedding day!

Merry Christmas

Celebrating my nephew's first Christmas was blissful!

One of the highlights of my year was a trip to The Berkshires. I enjoyed my visit to the Norman Rockwell Museum, which was followed by hot chocolate and chess at The Red Lion Inn in Stockbridge, Massachusetts-- this is the town that inspired this scene. Our cozy trip was complete with snow flakes and fireplaces.

I hope you enjoyed a beautiful and delicious season with those who warm your heart.

My radio silence on this blog is certainly not due to lack of content or inspiration, I assure you. I am merely contributing to this exciting new collaborative platform. I will continue to share information, stories and real weddings here as well, but wanted you to know where you could follow my work in the meantime.

I recently returned from an amazing trip to the Berkshires! I will soon be blogging about my time in Lenox, Massachusetts, the perfect place for a destination wedding, if you'd appreciate a sophisticated small town atmosphere with quaint inns, cozy fireplaces and spectacular scenery.

Enjoy the caroling, baking, trimming, cooking, eating, sharing, loving and shopping of the season! I hope this month finds you with family, friends, good food and the fun that warms your heart.

Falling Back, Looking Ahead

It has been a wild wonderful ride of weddings, traveling, events, parties, personal things and more. I look forward to sharing many of my recent weddings on the blog. This past season I worked at Terrace in the Sky, The Queens Country Farm, The Metropolitan Building, The Foundry, The Green Building, Studio Square and most recently had a wedding outside of Boston at The Estate of Moraine Farm. I had a really fantastic season and there is so much love and pretty to post, I am excited!

After my last wedding I was treated to a fabulous party hosted by two of my all time favorite event planners, the owners of In Any Event. They celebrated their 10th year in business with a Halloween Bash at Guastavino's, which may be deemed the industry party of the year. Here are the pictures- be warned the fabulousness is frightening.

On Wednesday I helped porter/contemporary host a pre-holiday soiree showcasing their gallery to wedding and event professionals. Thanks to Radish for providing the delicious food, G! for making the space even more beautiful with her stunning floral designs, Ana Dolan for designing the invitations and Jeff Ballinger for bringing his polaroid.

I am off to Lenox, Massachusetts for a few days of wining and dining. I've been invited to tour properties and visit venues. If you know wedding minded folks, who may be interested in a Berkshires area wedding, I'll be documenting my discoveries as I go.

Congratulations to those who ran the marathon and high five to those who cheered them on from the mile markers. What a fun day to be in New York City!

New York Weddings

Skyping with my godson, now means I listen to him play angry birds as I talk to a frozen computer screen, but that didn't stop me from sharing my good news with him. I was trying to explain to him how the New York Weddings is like the Bible in my industry. When I asked him if he wanted to see the listing, he said, "sure, show me the Bible". So maybe it's not a good analogy for a bright five year old, but you get the drift, this is a big deal! I am so proud to announce that New York Weddings has listed Brooklyn Betrothed as a vendor under the Planners and Event Designers category of their Winter 2012/ Special Issue. Hurray!

Congratulations to all who make up this truly unique collective. If you haven't met these ladies yet, here is your chance to see what they are up to.

Many of my industry friends and colleagues are also listed, we are honored to be among so many fine professionals. Cheers to all who made the pages of this important publication.

You can check it out on page 175, it's small but sweet and oh so significant.

Brooklyn Venue: The Bedford

A few weeks ago Jessica from The Parlour Brooklyn invited me to co-host a summer neworking event at The Bedford in Brooklyn. Wednesday night a great group of wedding professionals gathered in the back room of this Williamsburg restaurant. The space is equipped with it's own bar, a separate entrance, and sound set up for a DJ. It's a perfect room for celebrating milestone birthdays or hosting engagement parties and rehearsal dinners. The sangria, vibe and company were excellent. I hope to return soon with my Brooklyn Betrothed ladies to taste the food and let you know how the risotto balls and fish tacos rate.

I am off to Wisconsin for a hometown wedding next weekend and some family time. I hope you're enjoying the summer, I can't believe it's almost over. Have a great weekend!

Documentary Wedding Videography

I had lunch yesterday with a former bride, from one of the most amazing weddings. It occurred to me that I hadn't yet shared the clip from their wedding video. So, I thought today would be the perfect day to share it. Katie Fischer Design's The Story of Us...

I've been singing Katie's praises since I first saw her work in person, and am happy that her kindness and warmth mirror her creativity and talent. Her illustrations were featured at the Wedding Crashers after party at The Green Building and The Story Of Us might be my very favorite personalized and creative wedding element, ever.

What is The Story of Us? It's an opportunity to share your love story through personalized, handmade, creative drawings. This is a tasteful and artistic way to showcase the funny, the fumbles and the interesting things that have taken place in your relationship from first meeting to happily ever after. The illustrations can be used in details throughout your ceremony and reception, they can mark tables, adorn menus, jazz up programs and personalize other paper elements. Katie can do it all.

Engagement Shoot in Boston

While I do like and appreciate the styled engagements shoots that are very popular right now, I love these pictures because they remind me of what is most important: a happy couple, genuine smiles, natural backdrops, beautiful architecture and great photographers.

Michelle and Patrick fell in love on Cape Cod and make Boston their home today, so I doubt they will ever tire of these beautiful and classic photos taken in a state that has such significance in their love story.

Michelle is one of the most disciplined people I know, her commitment to working out, excelling at her career and maintaining her personal relationships is second to none. Patrick is one of the most charismatic and kind people I know, he is passionate about what he does and so very patient with others. Michelle is a dear friend and has always been supremely supportive and enthusiastic about my event planning endeavors and Patrick was the first and only one to ever get me on a snowboard. Not a hugely successful activity, but what a fun Vermont weekend.

I am so excited to help Michelle and Patrick plan their rustic farm wedding. I am going to Boston this weekend to take care of some of the big things. We will visit the site, taste the menu, meet with the florist and firm up the overall design. This couple is amazing, I am really lucky to be working with them and am looking forward to their wedding in October.

Thanks to Megan of Hello Super 8, a dynamite film maker based in New York. She answered my tweet looking for an excellent photographer in the Boston area and led us to: Studio Nouveau, the photography duo responsible for these lovely pictures. Tech Savvy Wedding Registries

You want his and her iPads, the new MacBook Air or the latest iPhone vs. towels, blenders and china you'll use once a year. You're not alone. While NewlyWish offers couples excellent alternatives to traditional registries and Deposit a Gift allows you to register for cash in tasteful and discreet way, I wanted to dig a little deeper and asked Caroline Green, the Director of Business Development, for IvanExpert, Inc., who offers onsite Mac, iPad, and iPhone support to home users and small businesses in the New York City area, for her expert advice for couples who place a greater value on the latest technology vs. domestic items.

Here's what she shared with us:

As a Mac computer expert, I occasionally get asked, What's the most tech-friendly way to handle our wedding gift registry? Here are some options, both for places to register that carry a good selection of tech items, and ways to use your iPhone to facilitate the process.

1. Amazon

Amazon has a wedding registry, and of course you can add anything on their site to your list--from electronics to books. You sign up for the registry, and then every product page gets an "Add to Wedding Registry" button. It even keeps track of who purchased which items, plus their mailing addresses, so it's easy to write the thank-you notes. Of course you can also return anything purchased through the registry, thanks to Amazon's liberal return policy.

2. Target

Of course Target has a well-designed registry called Club Wedd, and they carry a good selection of electronics (although not as amazing as Amazon's). They have a barcode scanner app for iPhone and Android, so you can use it to view your gift list and add items.

3. Best Buy (not recommended)

Best Buy also has a registry, although they call it a "Wish List" as of course you can use it for birthdays, graduations, bar mitzvahs, and so on. Unfortunately the Wish List doesn't show when items on the list have been purchased for you, so it's not practical for a wedding.

4. ComputerGear

ComputerGear has a gift registry. Unlike Best Buy, all online purchases update your gift list and prevent others from purchasing that item. Warning: The items are super geeky.

5. WeddingScan iPhone app

This app allows you to scan any item from any store, and add that to your computer online registry. First you sign up on the WeddingScan website for a free registry account. Then you just scan the product barcode, and the item is automatically added to your list. Gift-buyers can log in to the website and place the order from there (through Amazon, which must be how they make their money--they get 4% of every sale as an Amazon affiliate).

6. MyRegistry

MyRegistry.com allows you to add items from any store in the world (so they claim). You follow the instructions to place an "Add to MyRegistry" button in your browser toolbar, and then click that button when you're looking at a product you want to add to your list. One feature of the site is their "Cash Gift Service," which allows you to set up a cash gift fund so people can donate money to you using a credit card (you do get charged a transaction fee for this). They also have an iPhone app and an Android app, so you can scan product barcodes to compare prices or add gifts to your registry.

7. SimpleRegistry (recommended although read the fine print)

SimpleRegistry has a slightly different way of using technology for registries. You sign up for gifts to receive, and they have a button to add any item on any website to your registry. An iPhone app allows you to scan barcodes to add those items to your registry. You can also include activities and experiences that you want people to contribute money toward. People pay with PayPal or a credit card. However all the "gifts" just come in as cash, even the products--you have the money transferred to your bank account and spend it on anything you want. SimpleRegistry takes 7% of the money. I suppose this is a good idea if you want to tell your traditional parents and aunts and uncles that you want a set of pots and pans but what you really want is money to go on a six-month hiking trip through India…

Sugar Flower Cake Shop Matchmaking Party

In searching for inspiration to present cupcakes in yet a new way, next month at a hometown wedding, I found myself on the Sugar Flower Cake Shop blog, literally. When ever I complained about a picture of myself growing up, my dad always lovingly reminded me that pictures don't lie, Tammy. Well dad now thanks to photoshop, cropping, untagging and other editing tricks they may not lie but at least we don't have to be reminded of our faults. So when I saw this picture of myself I was admittedly at first a bit taken back but then decided that it shows my enthusiasm for what I do and the new dress I got in Ireland that I was on the fence about, so instead of hiding it, I'll own it and share it with all of you. A while back Amy, the owner and founder of Sugar Flower Cake Shop enlisted my services in helping plan an event that would introduce and celebrate her new space to select industry, media and press. Thrilled with the outcome, you can see all the pictures and read about the highlights and details of the night on her blog here and here.

I wish I remembered what promoted such a physical reaction from me. Thanks Amy for this opportunity, it was a sweet night!

New Venue for Same Sex Weddings

As history is about to be made and same sex couples gear up to get married on Sunday. An alternative to the crowds and heat of City Hall is the brand new and stunning Porter Contemporary art gallery in Chelsea on West 28th Street. Owner and Founder Jessica L. Porter recently moved her space and in honor of the new address, Jessica celebrated with a name change (formerly Raandesk Gallery) and a brand revitalization.

These pictures were taken at the gallery's opening in June introducing A Portrait Apart, a gorgeous show not to be missed. Same Sex Wedding Vendors

The idea of same sex wedding vendors seems a little silly in the city of New York, where truly anything goes. While it hasn't been legal until now, many of us wedding professionals have been supporting same sex couples who have celebrated their relationships for a long time. I've known several couples who have gone to states where it was legal to wed and then return to New York for the celebration with their friends and family.

Etsy Wedding Vendors

I've finally jumped on the Etsy band wagon and am liking it. I can't post what I purchased just yet, as I don't want to spoil the surprise of the gift I am giving. Not that the receiver is hanging on my every typed word, but incase he is... I will certainly share after the package is received as both items would make perfect groom or groomsmen gifts.

Meanwhile, there is an exciting opportunity for Etsy vendors and enthusiasts. Do you have a favorite Etsy vendor who's work you love? Please let me know. I'd love to share this opportunity with some of the most creative, original and hand made vendors in the country. Wedding focused vendors would be ideal, but this is not a requirement.

I'll be sharing more about this project in the months to come, but wanted to get a feel for who some of the rising stars in the Etsy world are and thought I'd start here to see what you think.

The Bachelorette

It's no surprise to those who know me that I may get sucked into The Bachelor and The Bachelorette more seasons that I care to admit, it's a slippery slope. This season The Bachelorette holds special significance. One of the remaining bachelors was the best man at a wedding I coordinated last fall. Remember this wedding at The Yale Club. I was very impressed with Ames, he was polished, extremely well spoken, very handsome and delivered a first rate toast to the happy couple. Tune in to ABC on Mondays and join me in cheering Ames on to finding love. To quote the bride, "May the Best Man win!"

Train Themed Birthday Party

This week I am going to tap into the archives of my blog and share some of my favorite posts from the past, as they seem appropriate this week. First, Happy Birthday Andrew! I miss you and love you and wish we were together this year to celebrate your special day.

Welcome to my new readers, thank you for your interest! There are lots of new and great posts in store, starting in July.

As I look back on 2009 with enormous pride and joy, I am grateful for the abundance of professional opportunities I have had in the last twelve months. I also realize while I have offered bits and pieces of some of my most memorable events, I have not thoroughly shared the beautiful images and details of them. As we begin to bid farewell to the year, please join me as I showcase some of the best events I have had the privilege to plan and coordinate in 2009.

Andrew’s Third Birthday Train Party

There was never a question of what the theme of this party would be, as this three year old boy is deeply committed to his train tracks, engines and play regime. While Thomas the Tank Engine is his favorite, his mom wanted the party to be personal, creative and thoughtful.

The information on the invitation was thorough, yet presented in a creative verse. This set the tone for the party and gave guests an idea of what to expect.

The wooden train glued to the loot bag was purchased pre-cut at a craft store (they have many other non train options) and gives the bag a clean and natural look. Painting them at the party was an activity on my rain plan alternative in the case of inclement weather. Each bag had a pin stripped conductor hat, a red bandanna, a wooden train whistle (sorry parents!) an individual box of train shaped cookies and candy.

The play list of train themed songs we created for the party was burned to blank CDs for guests to take home. This is an inexpensive favor or filler for any type of party. The CD cover was customized to coordinate with the invites, loot bags and over all concept of the party.

This activity book was made special for Andrew. It featured trains and his birthday. It was filled with pages to color, mazes, puzzles and photos.

I used Martha Stewart's train punch to make the cardboard trains resting on each miniature cupcake. The cupcakes sat on wooden train tracks surrounding the cookie bouquet. They took main stage so no traditional cake was needed. The birthday candles rested in a deep glass of m&m's. Train lollipops and railroad gum adorned the table. When entertaining in a client's home, I try to use their service pieces when it's appropriate. It seems fitting, but in this case the client's beautiful crystal vases would have been a classic contradiction to this casual kid's birthday party. Instead I found Pellegrino bottles in their recycling. The colors coordinated perfectly!

These are Brigadeiros, traditional Brazilian candies. The young guest of honor is half Brazilian so in honoring his culture these were served with dessert. Made with sweetened condensed milk, they are beyond delicious!

The activities were a train pinata, Put the Conductor in the Train Game and swimming.

Poppies and Posies at The Green Building

Sometimes it's better to know when to keep quiet and let the pictures speak for themselves. This is certainly one of those times. I remember the day when Sierra and Juliet of Poppies and Posies agreed to design the Wedding Crashers After Party at The Green Building. I was ridiculously, as in like Christmas Eve as a kid, excited they were on board. I am so grateful to this talented duo, they are both such wonderful women. They've been such huge supporters of my business, they get it with the capital G and their aesthetic is absolutely enchanting. Enjoy the eye candy.

This sign was one of Katie Fisher's designs of the day. She's another industry gem. More on her very soon.

The furniture was courtesy of GreenRoom.

The chandelier projected with light on the brick wall was the brilliant work of Levy Lighting.

The Green Building is like no other, this urban barn has crazy high ceilings, lots of natural light, custom built bars, a great vibe and they are in the process of developing their outdoor space.

Wedding Crasher Recap

Honored to be asked to help plan Wedding Crashers this year, I am thrilled to share a recap of this fun event! Big, huge thanks to the amazing Kristina Hill for capturing the day so beautifully!

The Brooklyn Based wedding event offered some of the most talented wedding professionals a comfortable, creative and cool environment to showcase their work and talk to couples planning their weddings. I was so happy to spend the day with many old friends and thrilled to meet great new ones as well.

Thanks to Ara from Rock Paper Scissors for adorning the entrance to The Bell House. What a festive and fun first impression.

Nine Cakes never ceases to amaze me. Her cakes are delicious period. But, owner Betsy is always so kind and generous with her spirit and her sweets. She let me have some of her cupcakes to fill the stand on my table at Wedding Crashers. She has a beautiful new website. Congrats! Two amazing wedding photographers-- on totally separate occasion have been heard (ok, one read on facebook) singing the praises of the Nine Cake macaroon. Who knew?

Anni from NYC Faces was busy beautifying the brides to be. Anni is great, she and I worked on a wedding together a few weeks ago and all the bridesmaids looked absolutely stunning.

Kimberly from Inspired Goodness has such great style and aesthetic. I adore her blog and her website it brand new, also. Congrats Kimberly!

Rebecca Shepherd Floral Design started by making beautiful jewelry. I was excited to learn that both Rebecca and Kristina (Hill) are my neighbors. You can see a cool photo shoot they both worked on recently here.

NewlyWish has revolutionized how people register for gifts. It really is the solution to not getting things you don't want for your wedding. Many small or specialty stores don't offer their customers wedding registries, but now thanks to this service you can indeed registry for what you want. Hurray for being able to register for interesting, out of the box, original items while shopping locally and supporting small businesses.

My friends at Always a Bridesmaid designed the tables for Newlywish. So pretty, Xochitl!

Elegantly Iced was new to me and I was blown away by their cakes on display. They were so beautiful and to my delight as delicious as they were intricate.

Real Wedding: The Yale Club II

After Adriana and Doug's wedding ceremony, the couple stopped at Grand Central Station, a location significant to their relationship, to take photos. The train station provides excellent backdrop for photos for couples who get married in Manhattan. If you are interested, request the professional photography permit early in your planning as they limit the number of permits issued each day.

Back at The Yale Club, Adriana changed from her wedding gown into her traditional Chinese dress for the tea ceremony.

Mother of the bride helps change her daughter's jewelry.

Hair stylist, Yuki and make up artist, Flora stayed to refresh Adriana's look.

Buttons and bustles take time. Be sure to allow enough time to get dressed.

The bride and groom serve tea to their elder relatives. The tea is prepared with lotus seeds and two red dates for two reasons. First, the words “lotus” and “year,” “seed” and “child,” and “date” and “early,” are homophones, i.e. they have the same sound but different meanings in Chinese. Secondly, the ancient Chinese believed that putting these items in the tea would help the newlyweds produce children early in their marriage and every year, which would ensure many grandchildren for their parents. Also, the sweetness of the special tea is a wish for sweet relations between the bride and her new family.

In exchange, the relatives offer the newlyweds gifts.

The Yale Club's outdoor space has great views and is perfect for pictures.

The Club's cake was adorned by sugar flowers created by Amy, the owner of Sugar Flower Cake Shop. The sugar flowers were designed to compliment the Calla Lilies in the bride's bouquet.

The Yale Club's food is solid, delicious and well presented.

Timing toasts and significant dances is helpful for all your wedding professionals. It assures the courses are served hot, important moments are captured well and the flow of the evening is optimal for your guests.

Ahh, this planner's goal, a happy, relaxed bride enjoying her reception!

Real Wedding: The Yale Club

My career as a wedding planner started years ago at The Yale Club. I am always excited and nostalgic to return to the place where it all started, so when Adriana and Doug contacted me last year, I was happy to help them plan their wedding.

Adriana carefully selected this ribbon on her invitations to coordinate the sash on her dress. The bride's mom had the invites printed in Hong Kong. The Chinese symbol means double happiness.

Elegant Affairs designed the bouquets.

These clutches still go down as my favorite bridesmaid gifts, ever. This etsy finds is personal, creative and thoughtful. LOVE!

There is little I won't do for a bride on her wedding day. Help with her accessories, but of course.

Adriana was a gorgeous bride, these are two of my favorite photos of her.

Look closely, can you see something blue? No, not the carpet, look closer. Love again.

Adriana surprised her groom with a very romantic gift, this special guitar.

I always work with at least one associate planner, since I can't be everywhere, though I do try.

The Church of St. Ignatius is magnificent, Lina Jang and her team did a superb job of capturing its brilliance.

Here comes the bride, escorted by her father.

What a great angle of the church and nice that the bridal party isn't expected to stand picture perfect throughout the service.

After their ceremony, the couple took advantage of the beautiful weather and had photos taken outside on Manhattan's iconic Park Avenue.

I adore Adriana's cathedral veil.

Doug's splurge was this classic automobile.

I promise a true recap of Wedding Crashers soon, but first things first. I want to show you my table and thank those who helped me put it together. I was really happy with how it turned out.

Thanks to the amazingly talented, generous and wonderful Poppies and Posies for making me these delicious flower arrangements. I am crazy about the wild blackberries. My table signage and the advice cards were courtesy of my dear friend Ana Dolan.

Thanks to Emily who did a fantastic job of "wo"manning my table, allowing me to give a talk, chat with couples and assist where necessary. She was also kind enough to make a last minute chocolate run. The chocolate covered almonds, espresso beans and chocolate hearts were from the Cocoa Bar in Park Slope. Betsy from Nine Cakes generously allowed me to have some of her cupcakes to fill in the bottom tier. I was really happy this serving pieces worked with the other elements on my table, as it is so dear to me. My friend Rebecca made this special purchase from Happy Day Vintage. Lindsay, the linen is difficult to detect, but I am happy I was able to repurpose my Scranton take away so soon!

While the scrabble ideas was mine, it was Ellen who thought to spell out "I DO" in the martini glass, genius!

Lastly and most importantly, big thanks to fabulous photographer and new friend Kristina Hill for capturing these photos and allowing me to share them with you.

After two really busy months, I've returned to Wisconsin for a few days to check in on my dad and of course to bank some much needed Callen time.

Real Wedding: Tamra and Michael Part II

Did you see part one of Tamra and Michael's amazing New York City wedding?

Lewis Miller Designs is responsible for Tamra's bouquet and the beautiful table arrangements.

Only those who hold the key can enter Gramercy Park, it's a big draw for those hosting their wedding reception at Gramercy Park Hotel.

These photos melt my heart.

So precious.

While Tamra and Michael were posing for pictures, their guests were escorted around town in this double decker bus. Can you read the message. It reads: "Just Married!"

Stephanie Intelisano designed the table numbers, escort cards and menus.

The cake! Easily one of the couple's favorite elements of the day and understandably so. Ron Ben Israel's team did a fantastic job at creating this black cake with white details.

The photographers had a good time trying to capture the very best picture possible of the cake.

I love these pictures, too. Choose your bridal party carefully, practice your speech and hire a videographer so if you get this moment and want to have record of it and remember it always, you will.

Tamra's dress really was that amazing. Will your first dance accommodate your dress?

Happy Valentine's Day! Real Wedding: Tamra and Michael

What better way to celebrate Valentine's Day than by sharing a wedding I truly loved. Tamra and Michael's wedding was amazing; I was extremely proud to be a part of it.

Can you see the heart on this card? This was the wedding card Tamra left for her groom.

I remember this picture being taken, it's still one of my favorites. The backdrops at The Gramercy Park Hotel get better stay tuned...

Tamra was the very first to wear this dress by Mark Ingram. Her bouquet was designed by Lewis Miller Designs.

Never underestimate the power of fabulous shoes, especially on your wedding day.

Tamra was a stunning bride and so very photogenic.

The bride waiting in the car for her cue, one of my favorite pre-wedding photos always, today is no exception.

This picture of the Groom, Bella, the couple's dog, and the groomsmen is displayed in the Bridal Registry Department at Bloomingdales on 59th Street.

Bella, the dog is escorted by the bride's sister and matron of honor. Q: Are Bella's nails painted red and is she wearing a tutu? A: Yes, and yes.

The couple was married at The Basilica of Saint Patrick’s Old Cathedral.

When else in your life can you justify renting a fantastic car for a few hours. It's functional yet fabulous for photos.

Love the black and white contrasts.

The Meatpacking District proved to be the perfect backdrop for the bridal party photos.

Admittedly, I was not a fan of the jabberwocky masks, but I was wrong, they made for very cool photos.

Part II tomorrow will include some very romantic photos taken inside Gramercy Park, the breathtaking rooftop reception and a full recap of all the vendors who were responsible for this wonderful wedding.

As many of you know, last week marked a momentous occasion for the Golson family. My valentine was delivered early. Dan and Reeba had a son, Callen Robert Golson. He was born at 8:10 am on Monday February 7, 2011. He was 19.5 inches long and weighted 6 pounds 9 ounces. Today was his first professional photo shoot.

Big thanks to my brother and sister-in-law for making a fantastic subject and more big thanks to Andrea of Andrea Paradowski Photography for posting a peek from today on facebook moments ago. Earlier, I wished Callen luck, not that he needed it and reminded him to relax and be himself. I got a text back saying he was rocking the shoot. I'll add the link to the rest of the photos once I have it. Rumor has it there may have been a special hat worn.

New Year, New Projects

So many excellent projects have come my way lately, I thought I should break my silence and let you in on some of the good things that have been keeping me busy. First of all and most recently The New York City Wedding Boutique has named me their exclusive wedding planner. I am excited about the direction this blog is going in and if you know any amazing New York City wedding vendors who have something to say but haven't taken the time or used the technology to create their own blog, this might be a smart alternative for them.

Suicide Prevention International which from now on I will refer to as SPI is hosting Walk For Life 2011 on May 7, in Riverside Park. The organization has enlisted my services to coordinate this charity event. If you know any survivors of suicide or anyone interested in becoming a team captain, it's a great opportunity to give back and raise money for a really important cause.

My use of facebook and time on twitter are finally paying off, and I shouldn't say finally as I've always found it extremely worthwhile but I will soon have measurable results. FitBrit's founder Paul Greenaway is a celebrity personal trainer. He appeared on the Martha Stewart Show in 2006 (we are still trying to get the clip, Martha, if you're reading this?!) and since then his clients have included David Bowie, Iman Abdulmajid and Lenny Kravitz. A dear friend has been working out with him for only a few months and has lost over 20 pounds already. FitBrit is a great business idea that is nearly ready to launch but fortunately for me he lacks social media skills. We are bartering social media skills for personal training. I am very excited even though after two session, I am quickly realizing how much work there is in workout. It's so not my strong suit but he's great at motivating and instruction. Should you choose to follow him on facebook or read his tweets you are supporting me as well. What is FitBrit? It's his revolutionary way of making personal training accessible and affordable for all demographics. He's created a series of videos tailoring the workout to your sex, age and lifestyle. You will be able to view these videos using your smart phone or iPad.

Paul keeps telling me I'll be skinny by summer which I've adopted as my motto. I created a plan on the subway ride into the gym yesterday which details my monthly goals and rewards. I plan to share my fitness progress publicly but I am still trying to figure out where that should live. Though FitBrit is a great options for brides who want to get in shape before dress shopping or the walk down the aisle, this might not be the place to air my workout woes.

Outside of the actual new brides (and groom) I've talked to and met with already in 2011, my favorite project of the year, thus far is Wedding Crashers. I have proudly partnered with Brooklyn Based to bring Wedding Crashers back to the Bell House for it's second year. Last year they did an excellent job of attracting great talent that was new and interesting. The event was very well received in general with many grooms in attendance. It had that Brooklyn vibe, which for those of you outside of New York, is a very good thing. There is so much new and exciting stuff on tap this year AND after the event guests will be transported (yes, literally) to an after party at The Green Building. I can't believe how many amazing vendors are on board already and we're still well over a month away. This will most certainly not be the last you read about this event, but meanwhile think: fabulous fashion show, amazing food and best DJ in the city.

While Tammy Golson Events has been diversifying, I want to assure you that I have never been more committed or excited about wedding planning. I've welcomed and embraced these new projects wholeheartedly, but what I am most grateful for is that they have allowed me the flexibility to continue doing what I love most, while giving back, getting in shape, staying structured in the off season and connecting with my colleagues. I am so fortunate for these opportunities and grateful to the friends and colleagues who are responsible for helping them come to fruition.

Wow, if you made it this far, you deserve a gold star! Thank you for reading this novel. I appreciate your interest in what I am doing. The diversity has been so interesting, I couldn't be happier.

Wedding Events in New York

Congratulations to all the newly engaged couples. I've enjoyed hearing how he proposed and listening to brides describe how they envision their weddings. I love the variety of new brides I've met this year already. Yesterday I read (likely on twitter) that the most important detail in your wedding should be fun. I love that. There are some really great events coming up for brides and couples who are planning a wedding in New York. Three not to miss events (in my opinion) are:

The Wedding Party at The Palace Hotel on January 22.

Wedding Crashers at The Bell House on February 27.

New York Weddings Event by New York Magazine on March 30.

They are all great opportunities to experience some of the cities finest vendors. Taste their food, see their dresses, hear the music and more!

Enjoy being engaged, there is no race to the aisle but if you're ready to get started, setting a budget, creating a guest list, thinking about what is most important to you both and what kind of wedding you want to have are all good places to start. Happy planning!

Happy Holidays!

I hope you all had an enjoyable and delicious holiday with those closest to you. Christmas came a few days early for me this year. Just before I was scheduled to depart for Wisconsin, I found out I got the apartment I wanted. I am very excited to start the new year as a proud resident of Park Slope, Brooklyn! Once I get settled in, I'll introduce the new projects that have been keeping me busy these last few weeks.

Reminiscing about China

I have been looking for a new apartment. A friend generously reminded me that in New York finding an apartment is like a full time job. So while I have done a decent job of maintaining both my full time jobs, my dear blog took the hit. In between frequent visits to craigslist and regular trips to unfamiliar neighborhoods, I've been creating a birthday box, planning a baby shower, coordinating a walk for charity and entertaining three other exciting projects for 2011.

Meanwhile I thought I'd share something personal from my past. The last few weeks my heart and mind have been in China with dear friends who are there adopting their third child. I was invited to travel with them on trip number two as they adopted their youngest daughter in 2007. It was a fantastic experience. It was documented first hand by my friend who just so happens to be a New York Times editor, and now proud mother of three children. So if you've ever wondered what it's like to go to China and adopt a child, grab a cup of coffee, a diet coke or a glass of wine depending on the hour and read her recap of our trip to China.

Outside of the emotion of witnessing an international adoption in person, the daily culinary adventures, the 90 minute massages for $3, the culture and the friendship, one of my favorite things we did in China was to have clothes tailor made. It was very realistic, easy, affordable and quick. After choosing fabrics, being measured as pictured above, communicating what we wanted with our guide's help translating of course, two days later the finished articles arrived at our hotel. This and the massages are my two strong recommendations for anyone traveling to China. One of the brides from a wedding I coordinated this past fall had the dress she wore for her tea ceremony made it Hong Kong.

With Christmas a little over a week away, I hope you're finding time to spend with friends and family in between the baking, card writing, gift purchasing and menu planning.

Congratulations to my friends who will be bringing home their son and brother just in time for Christmas.

Hot Dog: The Photo Booth-Refined!

Mélangerie stocked the photo booth at their recent party with enlarged photos from their original artwork. You may remember seeing their food by state totes I featured earlier this year. They also have a celebrity by state tote and print with the same concept. So of course these would make fun, interesting and original props for a photo booth, right? Right!

Sweet Holiday Party

Mélangerie hosted the sweetest holiday party and trunk show. It was great to see many of my wedding friends and enjoy some of the flavors of the season.

These savory pretzels were by Sigmund Pretzels.

The gingerbread cupcakes were one of the best cupcakes I have ever had and the frosting reminded me of an inverted Santa hat. Do the cupcakes look familiar? They were created by our friend Betsy of Nine Cakes.

The sparkling Shiraz punch was both beautiful and delicious.

Here's the recipe:

* 15 mint sprigs
* 1 ounce whipping-quality pasteurized egg white, lightly beaten
* 1 cup superfine sugar
* 3/4 cup fresh lemon juice (from about 6 lemons)
* 2 bottles sparkling Shiraz
* 3 liters club soda
* 11/2 cups St. Germain Elderflower liqueur

Brush mint with egg white. Sprinkle with 1/4 cup sugar, and let dry on a wire rack. Mix lemon juice and remaining sugar in a large punch bowl, stirring until sugar dissolves. Add Shiraz, club soda, and liqueur. Serve with ice, and garnish with sugared mint sprigs.

Planning Marriage Proposals

We are fast approaching engagement season. While of course it is okay to propose any ol' day of the year, statistically most marriage proposals take place between Thanksgiving and Valentine's Day. I was at dinner with a dear friend last night and she asked me why? My answer was speculation, but I believe it to be the case, because there are so many wonderful moments throughout the holidays, it's easy to attach a proposal to any one of them. It's easy to obtain parental blessings in person, which is a sweet and sincere sentiment and lastly you'll be able to share this news with friends and family in person vs. a phone call, text message or facebook status.

So with this on the minds of many *men, we want to help ease the proposal planning process with practical advice and creative ideas on how to plan the story which will be recounted for years to come. Proposers: First of all congratulations of finding the key to your lock (thanks to Dana of Deposit a Gift for sharing this brilliant analogy!) and kudos to you for realizing it is time to act. I hope you will find this series a great resource as you plan to take this momentous step. Much like planning a wedding, one of the early things to take into consideration is where you would like to propose to your partner. Consider her interests, hobbies and passions. What places are significant to your relationship? Would she prefer a private proposal or would she be comfortable with the attention a public proposal may generate? Time of year and weather may seem trivial but can actually weigh heavily on the experience and should not be overlooked.

It has been a productive and fun week of conferences, birthdays, meetings, site visits and new perspective clients. Thanks to Amy of Sugar Flower Cake Shop for inviting me to join her at the Ladies Who Launch conference entitled Dream It, Launch It, Live It at 82 Mercer. Joan Lunden, Martha Beck, Alexandra W. Wilson of the ever popular shopping site Gilt Groupe and Carley Roney co-founder and Editor in Chief of The Knot were among the speakers. The exercises that stood out prompted me to think about what my business and life would look like three years from today. Have you thought about this? The next exercise had me write down my goals for the next 90 days. Sharing both assignments motivated me to evaluate how I prioritize my time.

Celebrating three friends' birthdays made for a fun albeit exhausting week. These friends have all been instrumental to the success of business and the overall quality of my life as an entrepreneur. I am happy I was able to honor the three women. Simone and her husband have allowed me to store stuff at their house while I was in transition. She is a dear friend and also mother to two of my smallest and blondest friends in New York. I had to much fun at Ana's birthday party. She hosted some of my industry favorites at her true neighborhood gem, Cafe Forant. The owners kindly closed the cafe doors so we could toast our friend. It was a blast! The last celebration of the week was for Amy. The pomegranate martinis and cheese were delicious but the interesting conversations were what provided the takeaways of the evening. For example, did you know that the best places to be fitted for a bra in New York is Town Shop? Infants can and should start gymnastics at as young as four months. It actually helps promote good health and prevent ear infections. Lastly, many seem to have personal trainers and apparently the key is to making sure he is good looking. Having someone you like looking at holding you accountable makes working out on a regular basis more realistic.

With lots of interesting projects in the pipeline, I am excited about the possible outcome of a meeting I had yesterday, which will force me to run out and get the good looking trainer I referenced in the above paragraph. Meanwhile, I've been looking through the most beautiful pictures from a fabulous October wedding photographed by Brian Dorsey Studios. A talk on Personal Branding, my first Toastmasters meeting and consulting with a designer on the holiday cards she is custom designing for my business were all great uses of my time this past week. Want to get married in Brooklyn and haven't found your venue yet? Don't worry, I've seen some great new spaces I'll be sharing soon.

With Thanksgiving around the corner comes engagement season. Do you know anyone about to propose? I'll be providing resources to plan the perfect proposal in the weeks to come. Amy DeGiulio of Sugar Flower Cake Shop was invited by the editors of Martha Stewart Wedding to participate in the bridal market party last week. What an honor, I am so happy for my friend. Each vendor needed to present their product or service in an interactive way. Amy set up shop in Martha's kitchen and created sugar flowers while editors, bloggers, and press were given tours through the kitchen last Monday night.

Guest really enjoyed seeing Amy in action and hearing about the process.

Romantic Proposals

Tamra and Michael's love story is featured on Merci New York today!

Michael planned a fantastic proposal. He moved her (now their) dog Bella from Texas to New York as a surprise! The story was featured in the fall issue of Sophisticated Groom.

The couple's black and white New York City wedding at Gramercy Park Hotel earlier this month was positively magnificent. They enlisted the services of some of the city's finest wedding professionals. I was honored to be among the best there is. More about the wedding in a later post. I am happy their story is being celebrated today and on one of the bride's favorite wedding blogs. Brian Dorsey did a remarkable job capturing Tamra and Michael's spirit and their love.

Congratulations Tamra and Michael! Thank you for bringing me on board your wedding planning journey. You two were such a wonderful bride and groom, I look forward to seeing those photos. I hope you had an amazing honeymoon!

Monday night Martha Stewart Weddings opened their offices to wedding professionals for her annual party to celebrate the end of Bridal Fashion Week in New York City. How does Martha Stewart throw a party? She adheres to all the senses.

What an easy and accessible way to dress up your crudités.

The chocolate cupcakes were made by Tribeca Treats and yes they get a gold star, but look at the paper liners by Bella Cupcake Couture. They are precious and easily one of my favorite details.

Martha liked the Hampton Popcorn, we were sampling it at the same time and she was impressed by the quality of this product. Her favorite was the Parmesan flavored popcorn.

Guests were getting glitter on their eyes.

Manicures were provided. Here is the dynamic and warm Ali of Engaging Events by Ali in Chicago enjoying some well deserved pampering.

Elan Artist does not only over deliver in the sound department, isn't this band a sight? Their style would take any party to a new level. I love the look!

Autumn Recap

Well, here we are again. I have had a fruitful, fantastic and fun fall already and I look forward to sharing some of the highlights of the past month in future posts. With so many wonderful opportunities comes mountains of gratitude to the many colleagues, vendors and especially to my wonderful clients who have enabled me to do what I adore. On a personal note, I want to thank my friends and family who are so generous with their love and support of me and my business even when my schedule does not permit me to reciprocate.

To all of you who have been checking my blog and finding nothing new, I value your loyalty and appreciate your interest, thank you! Swanky weddings, foodie art brunches, killer industry events and more await. I'll keep writing--please keep visiting.

Happy 41st anniversary to my parents, (yesterday)! Like it or not, you two are a good team, and thank God you found each other--! Thanks for the many inquiries on my dad's health. I was with him this past weekend, and I am so delighted to report that he is doing great! He is not only walking on his own, he made a small appearance on the dance floor Saturday night at my cousin's wedding. A very warm welcome home to Flynn and Rowan-- they are little bity loves that I could watch for hours. I am excited to get to know you both. And, it's a boy! In February I get to meet my nephew!

This wedding season (and bridal market) was appropriately topped off with two fabulous industry parties last night. My evening started at the offices of Martha Stewart Weddings. (exciting photo to come!) The presentation of the food passed was absolutely magnificent. I am trying to track down photos of the food so you can see for yourself. I was thrilled to spend time with some of my industry favorites. Then I headed to the New York Public Library (remember where Carrie found out Big wasn't coming!) Lindsay Landman and The Knot planned a quintessential New York City gala for wedding professionals. People flew in from all over the United States, it was a who's who of the wedding world. Preston Baily's enormous ceiling high flower sculpture of a Monique Lhuillier gown, as guests arrived was easily the most photographed element of the evening. What a wonderful, creative and delicious night, I was thrilled to see and catch up with so many people I truly enjoy!

I hope you are enjoying the flavors of the season.

The photo above was taken on apple picking day, a few weeks back. We had perfect weather, great company and delicious donuts. Making apple sauce is still on my to do list.

Bridesmaid gifts

Last weekend's wedding was amazing and filled with fantastic details. I look forward to sharing the highlights, starting with Adriana's gifts for her bridal party. She selected clutches that were beautiful, creative, original and the bride personalized each clutch with her friend's name, her wedding date and a heartfelt message inside. They each had different patterns, too. I loved them!

Real Wedding: Best Autumn Wedding 2009

Reeba and Dan's rustic autumn wedding last October at Olbrich Botanical Gardens near Madison, Wisconsin was truly a highlight of my year.

Having your first look before the ceremony is an opportunity to get really great photos and enjoy some time together before your guests arrive. Carving out this time relaxes couples and it is evident in the photographs. It's a personal choice, but if you're going this route make it meaningful. Dan and Reeba planned their first look at the local restaurant they met at for the first time.

The bride's sister in-law worked in a flower shop and arranged all the flowers.

The bride's grandmother wrote this quote on her grandchildren's wedding cards. Reeba originally wanted to incorporate the quote into the programs, but then they opted not to have printed programs as a nod to the environment. Her grandmother's words were still positioned prominently at the ceremony.

Surrounded by so many friends that love them, they decided not to have a traditional bridal party. This is not uncommon, it's an opportunity to keep a ceremony intimate. However, Reeba did want to include her closest friends in the ceremony. She asked each friend to contribute to a special flower arrangement as they have all contributed to her beautiful life. There was a time designated in the ceremony for each women to bring her flower to the vase that was close to the bride as she prepared to say her vows.

The couple honored the memory of their grandparents with a special table designated to their photos, that guests saw as they entered the ceremony.

When asked if she took this man to be her husband, Reeba loudly, proudly, adamantly and enthusiastically proclaimed, "Yes, I DO!!!" It was awesome. After the couple was introduced as husband and wife, their family and friends erupted into applause. Applause that lasted for several minutes. It was so beautiful to hear and see how happy everyone was for this very special couple.

The couple wanted their décor to reflect the treasures of the season in a tasteful and subtle way, while keeping the overall aesthetic casual, sophisticated, yet festive. The candles rested on a platform that was created by the bride's father. He cut down a tree and had it sliced for this purpose. The groom plans to re-purpose the trunk slices in their backyard as a foot path.

The pie table was one of the most anticipated details of the day. Ana Dolan's signage for the pie table and the graphics she designed for the wedding over all were so lovely and tied the details together perfectly. Thank you Ana! xo

The pies were as delicious as they were beautiful, baked by Hubbard Avenue Diner.

Alternating pies rested on stacked wine crates which created height for the dessert table.

Guests young and young at heart had a blast in the photo booth all evening long.

With many small children in attendance, the personalized coloring books were a hit.

Reeba and Dan did an outstanding job of remaining true to themselves and having the wedding they really wanted while still honoring their family and friends in a thoughtful, generous, creative and original way. This wedding is a beautiful example of how couples can introduce sentimental, fun, meaningful and interesting elements into a wedding while remaining fiscally responsible.

I am happy to offer you a window into last week's event. The very talented and generous Kathi Littwin has been kind enough to share her beautiful photography from the industry party.

Kathy and the women of the Wedding Library hosted this event at the Roger Hotel and coming off my time away, I was to so hungry for some NYC and this was the perfect palate pleaser figuratively and literally.

I've had the pleasure of working with Jason more than a couple of times over the past few years and he always maintains a packed dance floor. See the bar in the center? A very cool way to light up your next event. Designs can be tailored to coordinate with your design and the patterns move with motion and touch. Very cool! Thanks to Levy Lighting.

The flowers were stunning and I did not realize until later that they were designed by Lewis Miller Designs. I should have know. His work is clean, precise and interesting. I loved it here at an event at The Glass Houses. I am thrilled my October clients have enlisting his design services for their chic New York City wedding. I can't wait to see what he creates for them.

I am always curious about parties I do not attend, I hope you enjoyed this recap of what I'd label a very successful industry event. Thanks to Kathi for inviting me. Please take a few minutes to look at her beautiful photography here. Also I'd like to mention, amongst the delicious appetizers I tried, miniature lobster rolls were served. They were bigger than the one bite we typically like an appetizer to be, but it's funny how when one is served fresh lobster, she doesn't seems to mind getting a bit messy.

I hope your summer is rounding up well with fun, family or food related plans to enjoy your long Labor Day Weekend. Personally, I am happy we welcomed September this week. Those of you who have to work, I'll be thinking of you and knowing I am in good company. Tomorrow I was hired to help with a baby shower at a unique venue I will share with you and Sunday I have a special project in Connecticut. I find it fitting to have work to do considering it's Labor Day.

Thank you to all my followers and clients who have been so patient, generous and supportive as my trip to Mexico immediately turned into an unexpected family leave. My dad's broken hip led to complications with landed him in Intensive Care. After three loooong weeks in Wisconsin, I am thrilled to report my dad is continuing his recovery at home. I am so happy to be back in New York and plan to make up for lost time.

As I catch up with existing clients, meet perspective brides and grooms, plan new events and draft blog posts, it feels great to be back and have a few truly productive days under my belt.

Last week I was invited to participate in a focus group hosted by the women behind Rent the Runway, a new online destination to find fashion at a fraction of the retail price. Their motto: Love, Wear, Return. They rent designer dresses for 10% of what a women would pay to purchase the same garment.

Music from the 1920's filled the summer evening air on Wednesday. The Wedding Library hosted an event at the Museum of the City of New York. I tried my very first mint julep, and boy was Great Performances pouring strong cocktails. I was most taken by the vintage fashion and the wonderful dancing, both made me want to take a giant step back in time.

A tour of the stunning Cooper Square Hotel prepared me for a client meeting; the views from the penthouse are spectacular. Before, I enjoyed a lovely lunch with Jackie of Merci New York. We sat in the back terrace and was ironically seated next to a bride and groom hosting a very intimate yet beautiful wedding lunch alfresco. I recommend busy city brides visit Merci NY for a daily source of chic and stylish inspiration.

This week I have plans to catch up with dear friends, there are two exciting industry events that are piquing my interest AND I have two weddings!

Hearty congratulations to Aarti, The Next Food Network Star! I am so very happy for her and can not wait to watch her new show, Aarti Paarti! She plans to infuse accessible food with her Indian heritage. Delicious! (Her blog is news to me, I am excited to check out her recipes, too!)

If effort to make up for all the gloom and doom my family experienced last week, I am excited to share my family's best news. Last year our nuclear family grew by one, when my brother married a wonderful woman. Next year, our family will grown again-- they are expecting their first child! While there has never been a shortage of children for me to love, I am beyond thrilled at the thought of becoming an aunt for the first time. Also, I am so very happy that my parents will finally become grandparents. They are long over due and ready to embark on this new phase in their lives. My first purchase was a onesie that read, "auntie said I could". My sister in-law has been fantastic about sending us weekly updates on the baby's progress. This week my niece or nephew is the size of a prune and is growing rapidly right now.

I simply can not wait to meet this child whose arrival we joyfully anticipate! He or she will be such a welcome addition to our family! Until then, there is a shower to plan...

Real Wedding: Best Montauk Wedding 2009

I have been sitting on this blog post with good reason for months! Today I am thrilled to share the secret I've been keeping for just as long. I proud to announce that The Knot has published Gabrielle and Michael's Montauk wedding in their Fall/Winter 2010 issue! The online version of the feature is here.

The setting was stunning and I thoroughly enjoyed helping this very special couple plan their seaside chic wedding. The couple married at sunrise and then provided their guests with coffee.

Later that day, the newlyweds were joined by fabulous photographer Robert Wagner. They visited all their favorite Montauk spots making the most beautiful pictures along the way.

Friends of the Bride's parents are jewelers and designed the couple's wedding rings.

Macaroons accompanied the pies for dessert. They rested in a base of dried cous cous creating the look of sand.

The couple purchased their flowers wholesale in Manhattan at the flower market and Gabrielle with the help of her mother, aunt and cousin arranged all the flowers at a house her family rented for the weekend.

The tables were simple, breathtaking and fit the setting perfectly. Each table was positioned under the tent in such a way that all guests could enjoy the magnificent views of the boats, lake, harbor and sunset.

Guests names were written on stones, the bottom of each stone indicated what table Gabrielle and Michael's guests were sitting at: Surf, Sand, Sea, Sun...
The gentlemen's names were written in white and the ladies in yellow. The couple hand picked each stone and made effort to match the stone to the guest, for example the children had pebbles and the bride's parents' stones were more prominent.

Each guest's place at the table was marked with their favor of flavor. Sea salt was the favor, appropriately. There was three varieties: Himallayan, Fleur de Sel and Atlantic Sea Salt. The bride paid close attention when it came to who got what salt. Guests with more adventurous palates got bolder flavored salts and she also made sure couples did not go home with the same salts. She wanted them to have a variety of salts to sample after the wedding.

Planning a wedding in Montauk can sometimes present challenges but is very rewarding and absolutely worth it in the end.

Update

My post vacation absence from the blog is due to a medical complication. My dad's fractured pelvis was followed by an infection which got very serious, very quickly. It resulted in emergency surgery followed by two more procedures and a brief visit to the Intensive Care Unit. Sleeping in hospital chairs doesn't make one coherent enough to construct intelligent sentences that are worth sharing. I tried.

I am happy to report that my dad's third procedure today went well and that even though he has a long and likely uncomfortable, recovery in front of him, he is on the mend and in great spirits. Hurray! Gigantic kudos to the nursing staff at Waukesha Memorial Hospital. They have treated him (us) with such warmth, respect, kindness and sincerity. Thanks to all my social media supporters who were following my updates and offering their love, thoughts and prayers. Well done!

Meanwhile, there are excellent things happening for Tammy Golson Events. I am so excited to share one bit of great news specifically. Please check the blog on Monday!

Tribute to my Dad

My dad did not get a Happy Father's Day post nor a gift for that matter, so I feel very justified in sharing this post in honor of him. He's going through a rough time. He took a spill last week and fractured his pelivs. OUCH! Walking is uber painful so he's working hard with physical and occupational therapists to get back on his feet. He's in good in hands, I know, but I wish I could be there, to well... just be there. I will be there eventually, and know my presence won't be any less needed then, but meanwhile, Dad know I am thinking about you everyday and I love you and I am so sorry this happened. Wishing you pain free in no time! Stay positive, and be patient, like everything this will take time. It's not a race. I love you so much!

Destination Weddings

Tomorrow I leave for Poughkeepsie, New York. I am working a fabulous country wedding with Leslie of In Any Event. The property looks fantastic and I can not wait to see what Leslie has created. Her designs are amazing, I am always blown away. The wedding is Saturday, after the reception I am going directly to the airport. I have a 7:15 a.m flight to Cancun, Mexico via Detroit, where I stop to pick up my wonderful travel companions.

I am so happy to help my dear friend celebrate her big birthday and I look forward to lots of quality time with her little ones. So while it won't be a working trip, I will be making a conscious effort to soak up as much information as possible in regards to hosting a destination wedding in Mexico. Our final destination is Riviera Maya and we have a day trip arranged to Cozumel. I plan to tour the area, investigate the property and dive into all the resources I can find, between sipping cocktails with small umbrellas and building sandcastles. Here's to sand between my toes and sunsets each night, it's been a while since I've had a proper vacation that requires a passport. I am going to enjoy this precious time away. I look forward to sharing my adventure with you upon my return.

Summer Update

Things are heating up in New York both figuratively and quite literally. How are you managing with the 90 plus degree temperatures? This weekend, you could have found me riding with the top down, sipping white wine on the water, in a movie theater, at the pool, enjoying a cone a vanilla frozen yogurt or accessing other sources of air conditioning.

This past week, I retrieved my things that were in storage since my relocation back in November. I am beyond thrilled to have my sundresses and sandals back, at last! Not a moment too soon. I've been tooling around the city and beyond by car, which is quite the luxury! I don't typically drive in New York, but my friends' car needed to be picked up at the airport, so it made getting my things from storage convenient. While I admittedly am not the savviest city driver, I love public transportation, it was a rush to drive into the skyline and crossing both the George Washington Bridge and the Tappan Zee Bridge Bride is quite euphoric.

I completed the Growth Venture program at The Levin Institute on Wednesday. While it was similar my previous FastTrac opportunity, I am so happy I was accepted into this advanced class. The skills, knowledge and relationships I am taking away from this are invaluable. I recommend all entrepreneurs consider these courses. Sincere thanks to our leaders Franne McNeal and Derrick Webster for facilitating a month of practical and powerful conversations, valuable lessons and useful business skills and tools.

Tribeca Restaurant

It's been an excellent week of scouting venues, catching up with industry friends, experiencing New York City at it's hottest and oh, planning weddings.

Big thanks to Courtney and Anne-Marie for hosting a lovely event on Monday evening. What a great crew, I look forward to the next one!

Tribecafe is an excellent space for an intimate rehearsal dinner or engagement party.

I was not able to partake in the delicious looking food, since I came after class (I have nearly completed the second fast trac course offered by the Levin Institute) but my colleagues assured me that the food was as good as it looks here.

I was, however, just in time to enjoy this sweet corner of the bar. So pretty!

Relaxed guitar music was the perfect soundtrack to the evening, provided by Elan Artists.

The restaurant's natural decor is a great backdrop with exposed brick walls and dramatic lighting.

Katie Brown, Meijers and Trains

During a recent trip to Michigan to help my dear friend plan her son's birthday party, I had time to shop at Meijers. It's a grocery store with a large Walmart/Target aspect to it. I had the luxury of walking the aisles (if you know me, this truly is a luxury) and discovered an amazing line of outdoor table top and entertaining items by none other than the fabulous Katie Brown! I've been a healthy fan of Katie's for over a decade, she creates entertaining books and television programs I love, use and reference often.

(This was my first Kate Brown book, it's an excellent source of innovation.)

My friend is truly open to and supportive of my party planning ideas and business. Last year we got an inexpensive glass beverage server at a popular discount store, that shall remain nameless. It leaked before the party started and we couldn't use it to serve lemonade. I think (hope) she took it back without problem. Katie Brown has a bigger and better glass beverage server, perfect for summertime refreshments! I did not think my friend would go for it the second year in a row. To my delight the purchase was not vetoed, instead the four gallon glass beverage dispenser was a huge hit! The four year old birthday boy-- loved it, because he could serve himself when thirsty. (cute photograph to come!)

This wooden runner was the other piece I simple could not resist and know I'll use again and again. I wasn't exactly sure how and if it would tie into the *recycled train themed party, but it was an excellent accent to the food table I had covered in lime green wrapping paper.

*When throwing a kid's party or entertaining casually outside, in lieu of the inexpensive uber-thin tablecloths that look like inexpensive uber-thin tablecloths consider:

-pretty wrapping paper by the roll
-craft brown paper offers a neutral foundation
-shelf paper works well as a runner
-fabric stores are an excellent source for table inspiration.

Katie Brown has a workshop in Red Hook, Brooklyn which is very close to where I reside. I have been very curious by the discrete sign on the workshop door as I've passed it in a car, but I've been unable to obtain more information about it. Thanks to twitter, as I returned to New York, I found out her workshop is now open to the public and her merchandise is on sale. I can't wait to check it out. Who is going to come with me? Hours are: M-F 9-6pm

*Why was the party recycled trains? Because it was the guest of honor's second train party consecutively on his request, of course. After much effort to tempt him with puppies, dinosaurs and construction themed birthday parties, we (his mom and I) decided to applaud his passion and his perseverance. While we recycled some ideas that worked well last year, we introduced new trains, colors and ideas to give the party an original look.

Cooking with Children

Culinary curve balls can be challenging and I would never wish for situations that would add stress to a client's event, but I sometimes...secretly enjoy the challenges associated with inevitable and unanticipated circumstances. These situations force me to find creative solutions and tests my skills under pressure.

A few weeks ago, on a Friday night, at about six o'clock, I received a request by e-mail asking if I could lead a cooking class for children, the next day. After a brief e-mail exchange with the client, I accepted the assignment. I looked forward to cooking and welcomed the opportunity to spend time with kids. Because the class was hosted at a gym, my meal had to be healthy, kid friendly and prepared and served in an hour. I shopped for the ingredients and printed the menus. The next morning, at 9 o'clock, I answered an e-mail sent from the women who enlisted my services. In my response, I asked if she had standard kitchen equipment and utensils or should I plan to bring my own? Her response was that there wasn't a stove or an oven, just a sink and microwave. She added that most people bring hot plates or create recipes that can be prepared in a microwave or offer dished that can be served at room temperature. Clearly I will inventory equipment in advance, next time. Meanwhile, I had two hours to alter the menu for to fit the situation. I was not comfortable cooking my original menu of quiche and crepes in a microwave.

Happy to have time on the subway ride to come up with a contingency plan, I kept referring to it as my quickfire challenge, in the spirit of Top Chef. Stumped, I rolled my suitcase of ingredients and extra bag of groceries to the destination (the Midtown gym offers creative activities for children while their moms' exercise.) I stopped in the closest deli and walked around for a good seven minutes waiting for inspiration to strike... and finally it did. I bought whole wheat wraps, Nila Wafers, thin gingersnap cookies, cream cheese and salsa. Instead of quiche, I made quiche wraps, which were basically scrambled eggs with cheese wrapped in a tortilla with salsa. As a substitute for crepes, we had miniature fruit pizzas. Cookie crusts, were covered with sweetened cream cheese, topped with an assortment of fresh berries. My revised menu turned out to be more kid friendly, offered a better hands on experience and was very well received by my young culinary stars. I didn't realize the word pizza ignites such an enthusiastic response from children. When the quietest girl led the pack in making a smiley face of fruit on her hand held dessert, I knew I had succeeded in teaching them to cook something they'd want to try again at home.

Happy Day Vintage

It's a week of sharing all my dirty little secrets. Okay, well not all, but... I adore serving platters and could easily shop for pieces to entertain with all day long. When I recently came across this item, I was immediate intrigued. I certainly appreciate antiques and love to shop thrift sales but am not a huge online shopper. I know, I am old school. When I do shop, I like the experience of touching it, feeling it and dreaming what I would do with it.

Imagine my delight when this wonderful piece arrived in the mail!!! I had told my friend that I liked it and she surprised me with it. Happy Day Vintage is her sister-in-law's on-line store. I may be hooked on vintage and am much more open minded to alternative measures of shopping. Anyway I can find intricate, interesting and one of a kind pieces to adorn my events is a retail success.
